In 2002, Afijma mobilised to take the concrete step of a collective action designed to
promote, at the national level, new talent already receiving support at the regional level by
each festival. The Jazz Migration programme offers encouragement and advice to these
young musicians as they attempt to grow, by offering them opportunities to meet with
interested audiences and professionals in France and in Europe.
For eight years now, Jazz Migration has sought to publicise jazz musicians as part of
Afijma festivals and, as of 2008, on the stages of clubs in the FSJ. 24 groups have thus
participated in more than 200 concerts since 2002.
The Jazz Migration programme has now
made substantial progress since our 60
venues offer the three groups selected each
year an opportunity to increase their
repertoire, face a live audience, and develop
relationships with professionals they will
inevitably meet up with later.
Jazz Migration thus draws on the expertise
of professionals in our two networks to pick out tomorrow’s success stories and enable
them to become known to the general public.
By this means, Jazz Migration becomes a valuable springboard for the careers of the 3
groups selected. Quite a few groups have, upon completing the Jazz Migration tour, come
up with new artistic projects, performed abroad and produced recordings, and all of them
have substantially increased their level of recognition on the French and European jazz
scenes. Once they have completed the programme, Afijma continues to support the groups
by providing financial and logistical assistance to their recording projects, as well as to their
tours abroad, by including them in our European exchange programmes.

The last concert will take place in Paris in december 2008. This will be the opportunity for every professional to discover the three bands at the same time.
Since its beginning Jazz Migration has been supported by the French Ministry of Culture, the CNV, the ADAMI, the SPEDIDAM, the FCM and the SACEM.
